It has been a pretty stagnant day on the cryptocurrency market, as most are seeing only minor gains or losses across the board. Stellar (XLM) and Ethereum (available on Coinbase) Classic (ETC) are among the biggest gainers for today at an average of a 10% gain. Here are some updates on how some coins are panning out on the market today.

Ethereum (available on Coinbase) (ETH)

The price of Ethereum (available on Coinbase) has been leveling off this past week. Exactly a month ago, it hit its all-time record high above the $1,400 mark but has since been on the decline. Ethereum (available on Coinbase) developers, led by the founder himself Vitalik Buterin, are steady at work on attempting to scale the network with “sharding.” This would split the Ethereum (available on Coinbase) blockchain into smaller chains named “shards” that will be validated by a group of nodes that are able to communicate with the main chain.

Another scaling solution is in the works as well, named Raiden. It aims at speeding up the payment process across the network, by way of an individual smart contract.

Currently, ETH is being traded for $854.46 a coin, down -1.69%, in 24 hours.

If the teams can fix the current scalability issue, Ethereum (available on Coinbase) has the chance to pass Bitcoin (available on Coinbase) this year by its total market cap price.
