If someone mentions the name ‘Katy Perry’, what do you think of? Bright colors? Cotton candy? Pop Hollywood elite? Probably all of the above. Would you ever associate the name Katy Perry with digital currency Bitcoin (available on Coinbase)? Before yesterday, I highly doubt that you would. That said, Ms. Perry completely changed the game on Thursday.

Now, whenever someone says Katy Perry, all I’m going to think about is how she is the latest celebrity to join in on the hype surrounding the cryptocurrency market. Don’t believe that a singer – who appears superficial at times – can be interested in somETHing that is so advanced in the financial world? Check out her latest Instagram post to see for yourself.

The Post That Changed it All

On Thursday, Ms. Perry posted a photograph on social media site Instagram (owned by Facebook, Inc.) that highlighted her manicure. For a celebrity, posting a photograph of one’s manicure is completely normal. This time, however, it wasn’t exactly the manicure that someone like Kim Kardashian or Kylie Jenner would sport.

Katy Perry’s manicure was entirely cryptocurrency-themed. Yeah, you heard that right. Her manicure consisted of 3D images of five cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum (available on Coinbase), Bitcoin (available on Coinbase), and Litecoin (available on Coinbase). While we do not know if this means Perry has invested in the above-mentioned currencies, we do know that she is interested in the sector, captioning her photograph “CrYpTo ClAws.”

Even though I was taken back when I saw this post on my Instagram dashboard, I’m not surprised by the idea of celebrities moving into the industry. I mean, once you have the cars and the houses, what else are you going to do with all of that money? Cryptocurrency is definitely the latest trend in the world, and even though it has experienced some volatility as of late, it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Nor does it look like investors are losing interest.

Cryptocurrency has received a lot of attention from financial leaders, both positive and negative. However, I will say that I think once more celebrities start to vocalize their thoughts on the sector – like Katy Perry just did – I think digital currencies have the potential to get even more popular.
