At a Blockchain Summit in Morocco on Sunday, July 8, Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin announced that he and his son, much to everyone’s surprise, are Ethereum (available on Coinbase) (ETH) miner’s. Brin is the president of Alphabet, the parent company of Google which he co-founded in 1998.
Google has been notably slow to explore blockchain technology but Brin has stated that he personally finds the technology incredible stating “It’s mind-boggling…I see the future as taking these…research-y, out-there ideas and making them real.”
And it seems Ethereum (available on Coinbase) is the coin of choice for the business mogul who admits not knowing too much about cryptocurrencies but is an advent believer in their technology. His son encouraged him to get a gaming PC and he then compromised with his son that the PC was to be used to also mine for cryptocurrency. The pair has “made a few pennies, a few dollars since.” (Is that a Sergey Brin “few pennies” or actually only a few pennies? I wonder…)
Sergey Brin is a Technology Enthusiast
Brin’s fascination with the technology is exacerbated by the potential of zero-knowledge proofs, where only transaction values are revealed and user identity is totally anonymous. Zcash, is the true impresario behind this technology.
As an avid tech industry enthusiast, the billionaire has explored various fields in the tech industry— even so far as to build his own airship at the NASA Research Centre in California last year.
And then there’s Waymo – Google’s self-driving autonomous car company who is still developing technology and cars suitable for public use.
